Vermont Verde Antique® is a Serpentine Stone. It's characteristics are quite unique and stunningly beautiful. Although it has marble-like flowing veins, it's not a true marble. Its hardness and durability is that of most granites. For just 5-6 months of the year, Vermont Verde Antique® is quarried in a small village named Rochester, Vermont. Scientifically classified as a Hydrous Magnesium Silicate, it's a Ultramafic and Metamorphic stone. It is classified in the "C" class as it can have small thin fissures which do not compromise the strength of the stone. A majority of coloration in each unique slab holds a very rich, dark green color with white & greenish-white veining accents. The light veining is usually quartzite and magnesite. Vermont Verde Antique® is from the Ordovician period dating back around 450 to 500 million years ago. Its natural plating characteristics are caused from minerals existing which are related to Chlorite and Talc.
Vermont Verde Antiques'® unique hardness characteristics make it suitable for countertops and flooring as well as exterior building stone and monuments.
